Lazarus
March 21, 2010

With a wire razor sharp, a potter frees his pot from the wheel and prepares it for firing, the final stage of his art.

Jesus stands before the sealed tomb of his friend, and says,”take the stone away.”  Then He shouts, “Lazarus, come out.”  bound head to foot in linen cloths, Lazarus stands before those who love him.

Then Jesus says, “untie him, sever the bonds, let him go” today Lazarus stands for us.  Come out of the darkness, Jesus shouts stand in the sunlight, untie the straps that hold you, to what you were and become now what you have always hope to be: fully alive, fully alive to the  life you have been given to live. sever the cords that bind you to addictions sever the relationships that that fool you into believing that they make life meaningful cut the reins that pull the fantasies of beauty, wealth, power and control,  pause before a mirror that doesn’t lie, slash the ropes that tied you to poles of self doubt and  begin to say what you need to say not what you ought to say finally, do what brings you happiness rather than bow to the comfort of routine.

As the pot is freed from the potter’s wheel by the deft motion of the potter’s wire, so too, can you be freed to be what in your silent moments you hoped to be.  Within the clay of each of us there is a work of art waiting to be called forth by the divine potter who knows us as we truly are.  Come forth, He shouts.  Come forth.  Live to the fullest moment.  You are in.  You are alive now.  Rejoice and be glad.
