Minutes of Parish Council Meeting

April  14,  2010

President Paul Travers called the meeting to order at 7:30 P.M.  Members in attendance were Ned Wentworth, Bob Shea, Theresa McGrath, Marilyn McGoldrick, Maureen Brouillard, Mark Colbert, Bette Marafino.  Ex-officio members: Father Cody, Pat Piano, Pat Pruitt, Cici Baker

Seeing   there was no Parish Council meeting in March, there were no minutes to approve.

Old Business:
1. The Jim Calhoun/Doris Davis Walk/Ride Cancer event  in  June, will be announced in the parish bulletin the weekend of  May 1st.   Pat Piano will be a bike rider in this event.
2. Mark Colbert updated us on the church signs.  He presented a “ladder of pricing” for several different designs.  It was decided to place a notice in the parish bulletin asking for individual donations to go toward the cost of the signs the first weekend in May.

3. Maureen Brouillard said that a tree will be planted in Doris Davis’ name.  The person
donating the tree will speak with Father Cody about a suitable place for planting.

Environment issues:  It was suggested that planters at the doors of the church for wreaths,etc would be a good idea.  Theresa McGrath will speak to Justin Gilhooly about a planter, hardware, etc.

Pat Piano and Pat Pruitt mentioned that the rectory attic has accumulated lots of “stuff” and needs to be cleaned out.   Paul Travers will ask the Knights if they would like to supervise this project.

                                                   C O M M I T T E E   R E P O R T S


CCD/Youth Group:  Stephanie Barnes will replace Jayne O’Donnell as Director of Religious Education beginning in June.
On April 9th, Archbishop Mansell conferred the Sacrament of Confirmation on 49 young people in our parish.  25-30 families have so far registered for religious education in the fall.  Materials for further registrations will be on the St. Tim’s website.   Many thanks to the teachers and volunteers in the religious education programs.


Liturgy:  Pat Piano stated that the Stewardship/Evangelization committee is continuing work on Pentecost banners. Many thanks to the Liturgy committee for their work during Holy Week.    St Timothy’s Adult Education’s theme for the year is “Dealing with Stress  in Changing Times” .  A film “Laugh a Lot” was shown as well as “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court” which will be shown on April 21st, followed by a favorite dessert of Mark Twain, prepared by Mert Champagne.


RCIA:  Rayissa Armata and Haydria Bish were welcomed into the St. Timothy’s community at the Easter Vigil.
 

Grounds:  Theresa McGrath asked for clarification of her role as chair of this committee.


Outreach:  Maureen Brouillard reported on the work of the committee which has been very active this year, especially during the Lenten season.   The Lenten Corporal Works of Mercy where  each week during Lent parishioners were asked to donate to a specific work of mercy- feed hungry, visit the sick, etc.  This was a very successful activity.  It is recommended by the committee that next Lenten season we concentrate on the same work of mercy for all five weeks of Lent.
There will be a Baby Bottle distribution and collection for Birthright the weekend of April 17th with a return date of May 15-16.

Haiti Support:
  The committee participated in the Ct Walk for Haiti on April 10th with the other Outreach committees of West Hartford and donated over $500 to Haiti charities.  The Committee had representation at the Haitian Health Foundation presentation at St. Tim’s on April 8th.  This foundation will be under consideration for charitable giving in the 2011 cycle.
Safe Environment:  Maureen also reported on the Safe Environment Program.   CCD teachers have all been trained and Pastoral Care Team members who have not been trained will undergo training.  Training for volunteers will be conducted in the early fall. And will be open to all parish volunteers.  This training is mandatory.  Child lures training was conducted for CCD grades 2-5 .  All current CCD teachers and Pastoral Care Team members have had background checks conducted.


Finance:  No report


Parish Life/Social:  Bob Shea reported that Hospitality Sunday will be May 15th.


School Board/Education:  No report


New Business:  There was discussion of taking pictures of Parish Council members for the website.

There will be a reception for Jayne O’Donnell at a Hospitality Sunday and Jayne’s contribution to Religious Education at St. Tim’s will be recognized in the parish bulletin.

It was moved, seconded and approved to present Jayne with the Maximus Gratis Award.
