Minutes of Parish Council Meeting

May  19,  2010

President Paul Travers called the meeting to order at 7:30 P.M.  Members in attendance were Maureen Brouillard, Bob Shea, Tom Policelli, Mark Colbert, Theresa McGrath, Marilyn McGoldrick, Bette Marafino.  Ex-officio members – Father Cody, Pat Pruitt, Pat, Piano, Cici Baker.

The minutes of the April 14,2010, meeting were corrected. to say, “ someone asked Maureen Brouillard for a contact person in the parish to ask about planting a tree in the memory of Doris Davis”.  Hangers, not planters, would be put at the two front church entryway windows in the front of the church.   The minutes were then approved.

Old Business:
1. We should encourage more parishioners and others to participate either as a participant or contributor to the Jim Calhoun Walk & Ride Cancer event.


2. There was discussion about replacing the existing church signs.  Mark Colbert presented the various sign proposals.  Each sign would be about $3,000.  A motion was made, seconded and approved to send the sign proposal(s) to the Finance Council for them to choose from the various options.

New Business:

Kitchen Remodeling in church.  There was a discussion about remodeling the kitchen and bringing it up to code.  The Knights of Columbus has offered to help.  It was decided that this is a worthy project that could be done piece meal or part of a long range plan.    Paul Travers will ask the Knights to write a proposal, including financing, and prepare a more detailed presentation at the June parish council meeting. 



                                                   C O M M I T T E E   R E P O R T S


Paul Travers thanked Father Cody for the lovely presentation to Jayne O’Donnell on her retirement as CCD Director.  Many thanks to Mark Colbert for designing and making the plaque for Jayne.

CCD/Youth Group:  No report.

Liturgy:  With the help of Mark Colbert, the committee has completed the banner project which will be displayed for the Feast of Pentecost.
The committee met on May 4th and reviewed the details of Holy Week and made plans for the New Roman Missal which will be coming later this year.  For Pentecost Sunday, parishioners are encouraged to wear red.  The Sequence will be read in foreign tongues.  Thanks to Regina Neal for the beautiful flower arrangements.

Environment Committee:  Pat Piano reported that the committee met on May 9th.  There was a request to clean out the attic at the rectory.
 

Adult Education:  Pat Piano reported that the committee is continuing its theme, “Dealing With Stress in Changing Times”.  The next film, “Only the Lonely” will be on June 16th with a brown bag picnic supper.  Tickets will be $5.00.


RCIA:  Robert Vincent Kimmons celebrated the Rite of Acceptance into the Catechumenate.  Bob Shea was his sponsor.
 

Pastoral Care of the Sick:  Sunday, June 6th  at the 10:30 Mass, will be a celebration of the Anointing of the Sick.

Facilities/Buildings/Grounds:  Maureen Brouillard stated that Justin Gilhooly will install the “hangers”. 
Theresa McGrath stated that the issue of the contract for the sidewalk will be pursued.  No outcome has as yet been reported.

Community Outreach:  Maureen Brouillard mentioned that the recent Diaper Drive bore disappointing results.  The committee will discuss  this at their May 20th meeting.The June drive for camp supplies for the Catholic Worker House Camp Ahimsa will be announced in the bulletin.  Chris Doucette from the House will speak after the Masses a week before the camp supplies drive,
Maureen reported on Parishes in Action.  This is a five-week program to help integrate social ministry into the life of a parish.  Participants should include the clergy, parish council members, Deacons, Religious Education directors and leaders of the parish.  Lynn Campbell from the Office of Catholic Social Justice Ministry spoke to the Outreach committee and is willing to speak at a future Parish Council meeting.  She will be invited to our October meeting.

Finance:  No report.  Tom Policelli said that the committee will meet on June 8th.

Parish Life:  Bob Shea said the Donut Sundays have been successful.  Future plans may include a Pub Nite in the Fall and a pasta supper sometime next Spring.  The committee will do some “brainstorming” for future fundraising events.

Website: Pat Pruitt reported that she has been in contact with webmaster, Jim Smith.


School Board/Education:
  Marilyn McGoldrick mentioned the successful Tiger Ball. There is a waiting list for the 6th grade at the school.  The School Board will meet on May 24th.


Paul Travers thanked everyone for staying on the Council.
