Classes for grades 6-8 ended on April 1st with a registration for the 2007-2008 school year.  We had a great turnout for registration. I am meeting with my teachers in the middle and high school next weekend to discuss the curriculum and what we feel should be covered/mastered by the time a student leaves each grade level.  I spoke with Jayne O'Donnell regarding this process and she said that by the fall she hopes to have a similar process completed for grades prek-5.  This will help us to make sure that our program is comprehensive. the confirmation class meets again on April 29th they will attend the 10:30 mass and be treated to a speaker and a breakfast following the mass in O'Connell Hall.  The youth group will attend this event as well, it will be the final youth group activity of the school year. Confirmation will be held on Saturday, May 12 at a special mass at 5:30pm.  Rehearsal for confirmation and sponsors will take place on Friday 5/11 at 7pm in the church.  Thirty-eight children performed reconciliation on march 20th.  Thanks Father Cody, Kris and Leary.  1st Communion will be on Saturday, May 5th at 11AM.  Kids making bread for the House of Bread.  Children are helping the Archbishop’s Homeless campaign. PASTORAL ASSOCIATE UPDATE – Pat Piano

Adult Education: Fr. Cody interviewed Pastor Martha Klein Larson on Tuesday, April 10.  She spoke about her experience as a Lutheran Pastor working in an Episcopal church, as a married woman ordained to the priesthood, and many other issues that are facing the Catholic Church today.  It was another opportunity to help our community face the issue of the clergy shortage and the restructuring of parishes.  She was very well received. Approximately 35 people were in attendance.

In September, the West Hartford Adult Education Initiative will host Carrie Kemp a nationally known speaker.  Carrie will be here two nights, Sept. 26 (St. Peter Claver Parish ) to speak to parish leaders and Sept. 27 (St. Timothy Parish )to speak to the wider communities about how we can be more welcoming parishes.  Carrie is passionate about evangelization and stewardship. It is our hope that this event will start the fall season with renewed energy.

Environment Committee & Liturgy Committees - worked very, very hard during Lent and Holy Week to offer our parish an experience that was inspiring.  Please, if you see any of these people, give them your heartfelt thanks:  Nellie Agostino, Joanne Moran, Lisa Gillis, Trudy McDonough, Jane Brady, Lorraine Bouchard, Maureen Brouillard, Regina Neal, Kitty Neal, Nancy Clifford, Lorraine Garribaldi, Tom and Gail Hill, Patricia Clifford, Nora Anthony, Ron Rothermel, Erin Leavitt Smith.  These are the leaders.  We know there are many, many more folks who helped in a multiple ways but these folks are often not seen are the real “trench” workers of the liturgical life of the parish.

Paul Travers, Marilyn McGoldrick and Mary Ruddat represented St. Timothy Parish at the Chrism Mass on the Tuesday of Holy Week.  They brought back the blessed oils that will be used for sacraments for 2007.

RCIA - We received two people into the Church at Easter.  Now it is our hope that we can attract more candidates and catechumens into the RCIA process.  The process is ongoing so if anyone knows anyone even remotely interested in finding out about the Catholic Church or becoming Catholic please call Pat Piano, 232-8594. Remember having an active RCIA process is one of the signs of an active, viable parish!

Pastoral Care Team -

Make special trips to everyone in their care during Holy Week to bring communion, palms and Easter greetings.

PARISH LIFE/SOCIAL COMMITTEE Paul Travers

Hospitality Sunday took place on Palm Sunday, April 1, 2007 hosted by members of the Parish Council. The Mother’s Circle had an Easter Egg Hunt during this time in the front of the school.  The next event being planned is an UConn/Maine football game, Saturday, September 8, 2007.  Tickets will be $25.00. This information will be in next week’s bulletin. An informational flier on this event will be presented to the staff of Saint Timothy Middle School, in order to open this event up to the people of the STMS community.

FACILITIES/BUILDING AND GROUNDS Tom Policelli

The facilities update is very straightforward.  We received 6 bids for the parking lot, with a low bid of $213,090 and a high bid of $302,973.  Denis O’Sullivan, the archdiocesan consultant who’s managed this process, has recommended we go with the low bid.  The contractor is EJ Haverty, and they are targeting a completion date in mid-August after 3-4 weeks of construction.  This bid does include the concrete sidewalk from King Philip at a cost of $22,000.  A letter was sent to the Archbishop to accept the bid from EJ Haverty.  Received a bid for lighting from Venora, around $15,000.

Need schedule between Organ (which is scheduled for August) and Paving (August).

EVANGELIZATION – no report

REVIEW OF OLD BUSINESS:

  1. Parking Lot - See Facility Report
  2. Parish Realignment - An open forum was held March 28 in Milligan Hall.  48 people attended.  After an opening prayer for guidance led by Fr. Cody, a current status was shared by Fr. Cody.  A robust, passionate, and committed dialogue followed around key issues:  the viability of St. Timothy Parish, the scarcity of priests in the near and long range future, and issues and concerns with linking parishes.  All comments were captured on flip charts and submitted to Gary DeMichele to help him draft the response letter for the Parish Council as representatives of St. Timothy Parish.  It was agreed that the final letter would be published in the bulletin at a future date.  Gary will send Parish Council Letter to Father Cody for April 16th submittal.
  3. On-going Improvements - Will be getting a bid for Anderson Windows for the rectory.  Denis thinks we should re-do and retreat the church doors we currently have instead of new.

NEW BUSINESS:

1.       Parish Elections - John Alissi will not be renewing his second 3-year term.  Need to get the nominations in ASAP for 3 Positions.  Orientation for new committee members over the summer, Carmen asked that each person put together a description of their committee they liaison with and their job.

At 8:42 pm, Paul motioned to adjourn the meeting, this was seconded.  Next meeting is May 9, 2007.

Respectfully submitted,    David Moran
